Honey BBQ Sauce

Spoonful of glossy honey BBQ sauce over a bowl beside a jar of ALSHIFA Ginger in Pure Honey

Sweet, tangy, and deeply savory. This homemade BBQ sauce simmers roasted peppers, sweet onions, and tomato with pure ALSHIFA Ginger in Pure Honey for a warm, gingery depth you won't find in a store-bought bottle. Slather it on ribs, chicken, burgers, or anything off the grill.

Yield: Makes approximately 2 quarts

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 3 cups sweet onions, chopped
  • 1 cup roasted red bell peppers, chopped
  • 1/2 cup Italian parsley, chopped
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups ALSHIFA Ginger in Pure Honey
  • 1 cup orange juice

  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Cracked black pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the onions, roasted peppers, and parsley, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are translucent.
  2. Add the tomato sauce, ALSHIFA honey, orange juice, chicken broth, vinegar, lemon juice, and garlic. Cover and simmer on low for 1 hour.
  3. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and season with salt, black pepper, and cayenne to taste. Cover and simmer for another 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. Purée with an immersion blender, or transfer to a blender and blend on medium for about 1 minute, until smooth. Cool and store in sealed jars in the refrigerator.
